"Today we are in a dynamic and fast changing world and our country is making a great stride in the field of Science and Technology. Years back in 1981, it was felt that there are inadequate numbers of Engineering Institute here in this part of eastern India to cater the demand for engineering education , which is a key to keep pace with the advancement of technology in this modern world. The journey of the institute started in 1981 with an institution for AMIE, GRADE IETE, DIP IETE . After 18 years since then , the institute planned to establish a Diploma Engineering College and it was on 10th November, 1999, when the dream of eastablishing the Diploma Engineering College came to reality. The aim was to do something for the rural peopla. That is why Guptipara was the location . With this experience and with a close touch to the engineering educational institutes, it was aimed at another plan i.e. to establish a Degerr Engineering College and atlast the mission came to a success and the Saroj Mohan Institute of Technology ,(Degree Engg. Division) marks its dazzling presence as promising center of education and excellence in the year 2003-2004. Our aim is to make the Institute a center of learning , rather than to make it a profitable Industry. I would like to take opprtunity to thank the members of the Board of Governors, teaching staff and other staff of the Institute , the various Govt. officials and the well wishers, who contributed directly and indirectly for the establishment of this institution."
